Just discovered this NG - a question about getting Vista

I am guessing that you need to be on some development team or beta program to try out Vista...but on the offhand that I may be mistaken, how I can I get a copy of Vista OS to test out? I have an extra PC that I would like to try it on. Can I sign up for something at MS and download a beta/trial version? Thanks

You will have to wait until MS release a public version unfortunately.

A public consumer release of the Windows Vista beta is expected in the second quarter, so stay tuned. -- -- Andre Windows Connect | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm "©®" wrote in message

Or - you can become a TechNet Plus (must be "plus") subscriber -cost is about $600 for annual subscription - however you will receive a "ton" of DVDs or CDs, your choice, which will include evaluation copies of most Microsoft software including Beta versions of Vista, both 32 and 64 bit versions. Updates are issued monthly.

you can also go with an MSDN subscription of OS Level or higher.

Woops! I thought http://windowsconnected.com was where you get the subs OS level. Do you have the URL for the info you are talking about and how much it costs?

Go to http://msdn.microsoft.com/ and you should find a link in there for it :)

Current price for MSDN subscription only dealing with OSs is $699.

Thanks - so much info that I didn't know where to start. I think I will wait for any public-type betas. $700 is a bit too pricey for me!

And I remember when being a Tech Net was Free. Back in the early 90's. It was fun but not worth paying for the privilege.

"If your company is making you pay for it, you obviously did something to them to make you suffer. I would never foot the bill for that out of my own pocket."
Keep in mind that there is a TechNet and TechNet Plus subscription- not sure but I think the TechNet is $300. TechNet Plus - in the area of programs only - about five DL DVDS (8 gig each) for "evaluation" - includes all of Microsoft retail programs (Win Svr Standard and Enterprise, 32 bit and 64 bit - XP Pro both versions- Office Pro 2003- Office 2003 Project - Office Share Point - - Betas include Win Svr 2002 R2 Enterprise - SQL Svr 2005 CTP- Bi Talk Svr - Vista 32 bit and 64 it - to name a few)

I am the company!!!
Just considering the included two PSS calls & tax write-off, the product pays for itself. Everything else it comes with is gravy!
Once again, you're clueless!!!

$800.00 - $1000.00 for a Vista beta when it might be released as a free to the public download in the next couple weeks - why? It would be cheaper to fly to a conference where they hand out those things for free, than pay a grand for an MSDN subscription.

Aye that's a good point - just save your money and wait a few weeks :o)
